Case Studies
HOPEthiopia
Vision:To construct a set of plans and concept drawings consisting of short-term, long-term and an overall vision of the future for a significant design-build in Ethiopia for orphans, widows, and the elderly to be proposed to top Ethiopian government officials within a six month period.
Conditions:A core-team of 4 visionaries, a disparate group of 20-30 people (from educators and NGOs to entrepreneurs, architects, and engineers) with little knowledge of the project, and only 12 hours of time allotted.
Foreseen Blocks:Seemingly too short a period of time; lack of group cohesion; lack of understanding of both the Hope Ethiopia project, Ethiopia itself, and the overarching global issues; lack of group cohesion.
Kultur's Design Specifications:Time compression and rapid prototyping over multiple iterations; information rich environment; high-level collaboration, which included group responsibility and risk.
Outcome:A robust iteration of the plan taken from core beliefs of the project to community integration within Ethiopia itself to key strategies moving forward to critical action plans all created with the depth of multiple professional vantage points and feed-back loops. Upon completion of the session, several participants commented that the group cohesion was so strong, they felt that they could design anything together, and meet any challenge.
